16-day Lemon challenge. It’s no wonders lemons are so popular – they make a great addition to anything, especially in the hot summer days. But, we don’t have much of a grasp for the use of lemons beyond making lemonade.
This is what the 16-day Lemon challenge is all about – it will teach you how valuable this citrus fruit actually is. People who consume vegetables and fruit on a daily basis experience a 15 percent lower risk of cardiovascular disease. Lemons also lower the cholesterol levels. In fact, people who consumed lemons had 20 to 30 percent lower cholesterol after a month.
Lemons make the skin look great
The gentle acid quality and the antioxidant content of lemon juice remove discolorations and marks and effectively regenerate and brighten the skin. The vitamin C in lemons also helps the production of collagen, which keeps the skin elastic, firm, and youthful.
The 16-day lemon challenge
DAY 1: DRINK IT IN THE MORNING
Add some fresh lemon juice in a cup of warm water and drink it first thing in the morning.
DAY 2: MAKE NATURAL MOUTHWASH
Mix 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, two teaspoons of raw honey, a cup of hot water, and the juice of half a lemon. Keep the mixture in a glass jar in the fridge and rinse your mouth with it.
DAY 3: CLEAN OUT YOUR GARBAGE DISPOSAL
Put some lemon peels in the bottom of the trash. It will disinfect and deodorize it.
DAY 4: PRESERVE IT
Cut the nubs off each end and quarter the lemons. Make sure you only cut 3/4 on the way down so each end of a piece is attached to the other. Spread the quarters and sprinkle some salt inside. Put the lemons in a jar and top up the jar with cooled boiled water. Let it sit for 3 days at room temperature. They will be ready after 3 weeks.
DAY 5: FRESHEN YOUR LAUNDRY
Collect all the towels and dish rags that don’t smell quite right and just put them through a wash with some lemon essential oil added to the mix.
DAY 6: SPICE UP YOUR COOKING
You can add lemon in practically everything, but a really good recipe is the Herb & Lemon Zest Butter. All you need is softened butter, lemon zest, and some chopped herbs combined together and rolled in parchment paper. Keep it in the freezer until it’s ready.
DAY 7: MAKE SALAD DRESSING
Mix 3 tablespoons of olive oil, the juice of half a lemon, freshly ground pepper, and some sea salt. Drizzle it over your favorite salad.
DAY 8: HIGHLIGHT YOUR HAIR
Apply some lemon juice on your hair and sit out in the sun to create highlights naturally. You can also use a hairdryer instead.
DAY 9: CLEANSE YOUR SKIN
Mix little honey with a teaspoon of lemon juice and wash your face with it. It will make the skin refreshed and soft.
DAY 10: POLISH YOUR SILVERWARE
Mix lemon juice from one lemon with baking soda to form a paste. Dip a cloth in the paste and wipe the silverware with it, then rinse and dry with a towel.
DAY 11: DEODORIZE YOUR FRIDGE
Put some lemon peels in the fridge to give it a fresh citrus scent – it will absorb all the odors as well.
DAY 12: KEEP FOOD FRESH
You can squirt some lemon juice over guacamole, lettuce, or any salad to keep it fresh.
DAY 13: DEEP CLEAN YOUR MICROWAVE
Add the juice of half a lemon into 2 cups of water. Heat the mixture for 5 minutes in a microwave-safe bowl. Wipe everything with a cloth.
DAY 14: CLEAN YOUR HOME
Put lemon peels in a mason jar and cover with white vinegar. The mixture should sit for 2 weeks. After that’s done, strain it and mix half-and-half with water. This way you get a natural cleaner.
DAY 15: TAKE CARE OF YOUR NAILS
Add the juice from half a lemon in a cup of warm water and soak your nails in it. You can finish by rubbing lemon peel on the nail.
DAY 16: TRY AROMATHERAPY FOR BETTER SLEEP
Place half a lemon on the nightstand. The aroma will fill the air around you while you’re sleeping. Inhaling the smell of the lemon will decrease stress and anxiety and increase productivity.
